About Go Beyond

A charity that gives
childhood back.

Go Beyond has been giving vulnerable children — young carers, children living in poverty, those who've been bereaved or bullied — residential breaks at centres in Cornwall and Derbyshire for over 32 years. These aren't day trips. They're week-long experiences that change how a child sees their own life.

The charity is entirely self-funded. £1.8 million a year, every penny raised through trusts and foundations, individual donors, challenge events, and campaigns. No government grants. Just people who believe these children deserve better.

"We just need someone with the capacity and the headspace to come in and make it a bigger thing."

The fundraising team is seven people strong and growing. A dedicated Trusts team of four has built income systematically over the past five years. Now the ambition is to double the number of children who receive breaks — which means doubling the fundraising income that makes them possible.

The supporter care and engagement function is the next chapter. The infrastructure exists. The data is there. The campaigns are taking shape. What's missing is the person who will take it all and make it fly.

The team is fully remote — with the option to work from a cottage at the Cornwall centre for a week at a time. The culture, by every account, is genuinely collaborative and supportive.

The Role

Supporter Engagement &
Fundraising Communications Manager

This is a management and strategy role, not an execution role. You will own the supporter communications function — building the plans, managing the team, project managing the campaigns, and making sure the data tells you what's working.

📊
Own the Database
Develop and implement a data strategy. Set up monthly income dashboards. Come to Sara with insights — not just reports. Oversee the data officer without being dependent on them.
🗺
Build Supporter Journeys
Design and implement journeys for regular givers, challenge event runners, Ice Cream Moments donors, and future legacy supporters. Turn one-time supporters into long-term relationships.
📅
Deliver the Campaigns
Project manage the full fundraising calendar — four annual appeals, Ice Cream Moments, challenge events, and a growing digital communications programme. You brief the freelancers, keep the timelines, get things out the door.
📈
Write the Strategy
An 18-month to 2-year delivery plan covering all income streams. Proper pipelines and forecasting. The thinking Go Beyond has never had enough capacity for.
🚀
Launch What's Ready
The legacy programme is built and waiting. The alumni programme has BBC interest and a willing interviewee. Two of your biggest early wins are already half-finished.
👥
Lead the Team
You'll manage a Digital Marketing Officer and a Data & Admin / Challenge Events Officer, plus draw on the wider seven-person fundraising team for campaign support.
The Work

Campaigns worth
getting excited about.

Go Beyond has a genuinely compelling campaign portfolio — and the ambition to grow every part of it.

Flagship Campaign
Ice Cream Moments
Buy a virtual ice cream as a tribute to someone you love. A beautifully simple idea with massive cultural traction — and this year, genuine celebrity firepower behind it. Your job is to observe, analyse, and make 2027 bigger. The trustees want to go viral.
Louis Theroux James Acaster David Gower Jenny Agutter
March–April
Spring Appeal
Annual direct mail campaign. Segmented — regular givers receive a specific "thank you" version. Scope to grow significantly.
October
Autumn Appeal
A key income moment in the second half of the year. Currently underserved in terms of segmentation and stewardship.
November–December
Christmas Campaign
Appeal plus campaign running alongside. The other big seasonal moment. Significant growth opportunity.
Year-round
Challenge Events
35 participants in 2025, mostly half marathons. Overseas treks, parachute jumps, and virtual challenges all in scope.
TBC — Ready Now
Legacy Programme
Infrastructure built. Free Wills Week ready to activate. An ageing, loyal supporter base and no active legacy promotion.
TBC — Nearly There
"Going Beyond" Alumni
21,000+ children have been on breaks. Research done, BBC interested, willing interviewee secured. Just needs someone to open the door.
The Opportunity

Why this role,
why now.

Sara's exact words: "Think of this as your own company — you could make it something amazing." This isn't a "maintain what we have" hire. It's a "build what we know is possible" hire.

🏗
Build from a strong foundation
The data, the campaigns, the legacy infrastructure — it's all there. The right person doesn't start from scratch; they start from "nearly there" and make it fly.
📊
Real growth ambition
Double the breaks, double the income. Pop-up centres in the South East. Trustees willing to put proper marketing spend behind Ice Cream Moments.
🎭
Cultural moment
Louis Theroux, James Acaster, David Gower. "Let's go viral" isn't wishful thinking — it's a trustee mandate. You'll be working on a campaign with the ingredients to genuinely break through.
📈
Your career trajectory
The Trusts team has grown from one person to four in five years. If you build this function and prove the model, the department can grow — and so can your role.
About You

The profile that fits.

The role has a big umbrella and no one will tick every box. What matters is attitude, logical thinking, and the ability to say "I can't do that bit — but I can manage it."

Financially aware — targets matter

Every campaign has a number attached. You must understand that and work backwards from it. If that question is the first thing you ask, this is probably the role for you.

Execution as well as strategy

You can write a plan and then make it happen. You have examples of campaigns you personally owned — with dates, outputs and results.

Data-literate — genuinely

Comfortable in a CRM. Can pull a report, understand a segment, interrogate a mailing list. Curious enough about systems that you're never caught out.

Proactive and transparent

Remote working means problems can go invisible. We need someone who raises their hand early and comes with solutions rather than surprises.

Background is flexible

Go Beyond is open to candidates from direct marketing agency backgrounds, individual giving managers with marcomms experience, and those from commercial environments moving into the sector. What matters is whether fundraising is in the back of your mind when you design a campaign — whether you think in terms of income, not just engagement.
